US stock exchanges close at 4PM ET on Friday and reopen on Monday; S&P 500 futures stop at 5PM ET on Friday and reopen at 6PM ET on Sunday. The SP500 perpetual on Hyperliquid, listed by trade.xyz, keeps trading in between, so it shows where traders price the index before the futures reopen.

How well has the weekend price pointed to the reopen?
Over 30 weekends (Mar 20, 2026 to Oct 9, 2026), the SP500 perp's weekend move correlated 0.86 with where the market stood two hours after Sunday's reopen, and pointed the same way in 22 of the 29 weekends with a real gap. The median move from the last weekend price to two hours after the reopen was 0.17%. Past weekends do not guarantee the next one.
While the outside market is closed, trade.xyz sets the contract's reference price from Hyperliquid's own order book. At the reopen that reference returns to the outside price, at most 0.5% per update (about every 3 seconds). So the weekend price is what traders on Hyperliquid are paying: a guide to the reopen, not a forecast.

Can you trade the S&P 500 on the weekend?
Not on stock exchanges, which close at 4PM ET on Friday and reopen on Monday, and not on CME, where S&P 500 futures stop at 5PM ET on Friday and reopen at 6PM ET on Sunday.
